Rusty Croom is a results focused six sigma and quality change leader with over twenty years experience in all facets of corporate and plant quality programs.  Key player in helping the first Company outside of Japan win the Deming Prize.  Executive leader with extensive hands on experience in six sigma, total quality, performance excellence (Baldrige), supplier quality management, lean manufacturing, and ISO 9000 implementation.  Fourteen years of service industry quality experience.  Eleven years of regulatory quality experience.

Senior Consultant/ PROMAX Consulting Services, Inc. 2003 - Present

Conduct Six Sigma Executive, Champion, Master Black Belt, Black Belt, and Green Belt training sessions.  Facilitate and lead six sigma teams.  Facilitate executive teams in linking improvement efforts to strategy, project and personnel selection, and champion coaching.

American Commercial Lines, llc 1999-2003

As Director of Quality and Master Black Belt, responsibility included initiating and directing corporate Lean Six Sigma implementation, conducting Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Training, coaching Black Belts, and leading high impact project teams. 

·         Integrated existing TQM process with transactional Lean Six Sigma process using performance excellence (Baldrige) framework.  Resulting customized Lean Six Sigma process implemented across global corporation in six months

·         Lean Six Sigma process improvement/problem solving methodology achieved greater than $1,000,000 verified hard savings per black belt each year

·         Facilitated strategic planning process resulting in the organization’s first strategic plan linked to employee’s goals and objectives

·         Aligned and cascaded corporate strategy through the measurement system, executive review process, and associate performance management processes

·         Led implementation of corporate balanced scorecard and business intelligence system (hierarchical drilldown system of measures) process resulting in a consolidated set of corporate metrics enabling online data consistency and analysis across the organization

Owens-Illinois, Inc.             1995 - 1999

As Quality Engineering Manager served as the master black belt and ISO management representative.  Responsible for quality systems leadership, training, and support to 32 manufacturing facilities.

·         Developed and delivered Six Sigma training programs, facilitated teams and performed large scale projects

·         Lead the development and implementation of corporate quality systems based on ISO and Performance Excellence (Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award) models.

·         Led senior management team in development of its initial vision, mission, values and system of metrics for developing and measuring its progress

·         Improved and standardized FDA (GMP and food hygiene) compliance programs across the company and integrated with ISO quality system.

·         Resolved chronic and new customer manufacturing issues through teamwork (with customers and internally) using six sigma process that reduced scrap and customer complaints


Southern Pacific Lines      1993 – 1995

As the General Manager of Supplier Development, responsible for developing and implementing the supplier development process, material deficiency reporting, warranty recovery, vehicle fleet management, traffic and equipment leasing administration.

·         Developed and implemented supplier certification and evaluation programs

·         Implemented and participated on commodity team developing commodity and individual supplier strategies

·         Worked with supply chain to resolve and prevent supply issues (quality, cost and service)

·         Developed sourcing strategies from quality and cycle time perspective

·         Worked with suppliers to leverage implementation of corporate TQM program

·         Using a team based, structured problem solving process:

o        Increased materials claimed under warranty by over 300% 

o        Cash savings to company in 1994 of greter than $400,000

o        Reduced equipment rental expenditures b approximately 20% 

o        Company vehicle fleet reduced by over 16%

 

Florida Power & Light Company     1984 – 1993

As Supervisor, Performance Assessment managed the following areas: supplier quality, quality assessment, quality engineering, and regulatory affairs.

·         Co-lead team that developed process resulting in reduction supply base by 50%

·         Reduced number of assessments required to meet regulatory commitments by more than 50% 

·         Implemented software quality assurance program 

·         Reduced number of corporate procedures by more than 50% 

·         Developed the division's environmental assessment program 

 

As a Senior Quality Specialist developed and facilitated implementation of corporate quality improvement process.

·         Participated in development of corporate supplier quality improvement program

·         Developed and implemented the company's quality planning system (Policy Deployment)

·         Facilitated development of short, mid, and long term plans that were audited during the Deming Prize audit
