Key contributor to FPL's successful challenge for the Deming Prize (awarded by JUSE)

 

Selected Accomplishments

PROMAX Consulting Services, Inc. (1999 -- present) --

            Six Sigma Black Belt - Instructor

Developed low cost, software-based learning tools for the "Design of Error-Free Processes for Service Delivery", These products are based on FMEA, and process EMEA.

Provided web design and support for interactive learning using instructional design tools such as Designer's Edge.

Marshall Qualtec, Inc. (1995 - 1998) -

As Vice President and project manager, successfully implemented a quality management system in the Facilities Dept of the US Postal Service. Savings in costly rework accrued through initial standardization of the new post office building planning & construction process and enhanced management review techniques. This effort was expanded to include the asset development and retail leasing processes.

Assisted the Financial Services/Business Development organization in the US Postal Service in launching 3 new products using Quality Planning principles avoiding costly rework and waste.

Qualtec Quality Services, Inc (1991 - 1995) -

As Project Manager, developed and implemented improvement projects at a major nuclear generation firm in the UK. The most significant project was the implementation of standardized process (at the Core and second level), customer-driven outcome metrics, and a prioritization scheme across 12 sites. The methodology resulted in an estimated two million pounds ($3M US) savings in maintenance costs and customer contract penalties.

Facilitated understanding and application of SPC in a major US telecommunications cross-functional team resulting in 20% improvement in repair and restoration time covering a 14 states. The "Designed Services Repair Team" was successful by determining assignable causes of defects in a process end-to-end and indicating functional contributions.

Florida Power & Light Co. (1971 - 1991) -

As quality manager and application expert, developed an effective cable and splice replacement process to reduce repair cost, rework, and failure rates. Led a cross-functional team utilizing Weibull Analysis and Reliability Growth Models to optimize the process and resulted in reduced operating costs and increased system availability.

As senior management analyst and lead quality advisor for Eastern Division, was responsible for the training and development of all QI Teams Leaders and1600+ employees in the implementation of the company-wide approach to quality improvement (TQC, Kaizen called QIP at FLP). This foundation was critical to the successful challenge for the Deming Prize in 1989.

Developed cost saving and other improvements as internal management consultant in the following areas - manpower control & budgeting, facilities planning & construction, optimization of the electrical distribution system.
